10 years ago, BASF first offered its customers Regalis®, a new plant regulator. In the last years, Regalis® made by BASF has evolved into the tool of choice in modern farming. How does Regalis® Plus work?
By introducing Regalis® Plus to your orchard you will acquire more than just a growth regulator.
Our BASF Regalis® Plus is a growth regulator, yield manager and plant strengthener in only one product. The active ingredient in Regalis® Plus, Prohexadione-Calcium, inhibits gibberellin production and ethylene formation, and it interferes with flavonoid metabolism.
Growth regulator
Reduction of longitudinal shoot growth is the most obvious effect of Regalis® Plus. Gibberellins are of paramount importance for shoot extension growth. Prohexadione-Calcium blocks the biosynthesis of gibberellins, reducing levels of growth-active gibberellins, therefore shoot growth is restricted.
Yield manager
Regalis® Plus can help to manage fruit set in order to achieve your production targets year after year. Prohexadione-Calcium inhibits the ethylen formation under stressfull conditions, what leads to a reduced abscission of young fruits.
Plant strengthener
The natural disease and pest resistance of your trees is enhanced through the formation of new flavonoids in young shoots.Prohexadione-Calcium interferes with flavonoid metabolism, triggering natural defense mechanisms against certain pathogens and pests such as fire blight, aphids and leaf suckers.

Reducing shoot length
Reduction in shoot growth is the most obvious effect of Regalis® Plus. In typical situations, shoot length is reduced by 30 – 50 %. The development of short, potentially fruiting shoots is supported. This significant effect is reached as well with one application at the full dose rate as with a split of the dose rate into multiple applications.
Managing yield
Fruit set and yield are increased because there is less dropping of young fruits. Reduced shoot growth leads to an open canopy structure enabling better light penetration for best fruit coloring. Furthermore the risk of sunburn damage is reduced due to the adaption of fruits to high light intensity. Fruits are well nourished with less risk for bitter pit and scald, improving the storage potential.
Managing yield
Regalis® Plus triggers natural defense mechanisms against bacterial and fungal diseases such as Fire Blight, Scab and Powdery Mildew.
