Wheat Fungicide Facts
Click on the links below to find out more about the wheat timings and growth stages:
- T0 Cleans-up the crop in specific situaltions to reduce pressure on the rest of the programme and provide more flexibility of T1 sprays
- T1 Essential. Sets the crop up and maintains potential yield
- T2 Essential. Keep the main yield-producing leaves free of disease
T3 Prevent the crop from late yield robbers and maintains grain quality
On average, T2 is the most important, followed by T1, then T3. In addition, T0 is a very sound extra investment at little cost in high early-risk situations.

T3 Prevent the crop from late yield robbers and maintains grain quality
When the ear has fully emerged from the leaf sheath, then the crop has reached GS 59. Anthesis, or flowering, then starts, when the dusty pollen is released from the ear.
At the end of flowering, the crop is at GS 69 – from then on the grains become milky. Termed the T3 spray, because it’s traditionally the third treatment in a sequence. It’s a must for milling wheats to preserve quality; but in most seasons it’s also worthwhile on feed varieties.
When? – usually mid-June. But beware – a T3 which is targeting Fusarium should be applied as soon as the anthers start to show in early flowering, GS 60. This can be a few days after the ear splits from the boot.
Then the control window is narrow; you only have about one week to spray successfully. For control of everything except Fusarium, the window is wider – you could start earlier at early ear emergence, GS 52, up to anthesis at GS 60.
